Beef & Halloumi Burger

Ingredients

  • 2 pieces ‘Burger’ halloumi
  • 300 g ground beef – 20% fat content
  • 2 pieces burger bun – brioche would be great!
  • 1 piece red onion – caramelized
  • 3 tbsp mayonnaise
  • 1 tbsp ketchup
  • 1 tbsp mustard
  • 1 cup greens
  • ⅓ cup pickled cucumbers – finely chopped
  • 2 tbsp onion – finely chopped
  • 4 slices tomatoes
  • Salt & pepper – to taste

Instructions:

  • In a bowl, combine the ground beef and mustard, and knead well. Form two meatballs from the mixture and press them into 2 cm thick patties. Chill in the fridge for 30 minutes.
  • Prepare the sauce by combining ketchup, mayonnaise, finely chopped onions, and pickled cucumbers. Chill in the fridge.
  • Preheat the oven to 180°C. Prepare a baking tray. Heat the grill or pan, and place the burger patties on the grill. Cook both sides for 3-5 minutes on medium heat. Sprinkle with salt and pepper, then transfer the patties to the baking tray and bake for 10-15 minutes, depending on the desired doneness.
  • Meanwhile, grill the halloumi pieces and lightly heat the bread pieces.
  • Once the patties are ready, prepare the bottom of the bread pieces by spreading with the sauce. Layer up with greens, beef patties, grilled halloumi, caramelized onions, tomatoes, and finish with more sauce. Serve right away!
