Cypriot Potato Meatballs

Ingredients

Main Dish

  • 1 cup potatoes – grated
  • 2 tbsp onion – grated
  • 100 g light halloumi – grated
  • 2-3 tbsp bread crumbs – add gradually
  • 1 egg
  • Salt – to taste
  • Black pepper – to taste
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • ¼ bunch parsley – finely chopped
  • Potatoes – sliced, for French fries

Cacık/Tzatziki

  • 1 cup strained yoghurt
  • ½ cup cucumber – grated
  • 1 clove garlic – grated
  • 3 tbsp olive oil
  • ½ tbsp dried mint
  • Salt – to taste

Instructions:

  • Grate the potatoes and press to drain the excess juice. Transfer the potatoes into a bowl. Add the grated onions, followed by the halloumi, bread crumbs, salt, cumin, pepper, parsley, and egg. Knead well.
  • Take small pieces of the mixture and shape them into ovals, a bit thicker than finger width.
  • Heat the oil in a pan and shallow-fry the meatballs, rotating them until evenly cooked.
  • Serve with French fries and cacık/tzatziki. Enjoy!
